Things are looking good for the 2012 season. Snow pack is below normal to normal. So I think we shouldn’t have another flood year. So if we have normal water flows fishing should be outstanding this year. With three years of good water on all rivers trout populations are high if not above average. With that being said Dry Fly fishing should also be outstanding .

So if you want an excellent trip book with Waters Edge Outfitting.

Sincerely,

The Mothers Day Caddis has arrived on time . I heard of a couple of good reports from yesterday of good dry fly fishing mainly thru the town section. This morning the river thru town looked pretty dirty but if you head up stream might be able to find some better clarity and hopefully some caddis. I am hoping that it will stay cool and not a lot of rain the next few days and the river should shape up for a few days of real good dry fly fishing. Keep your fingers crossed.

I was on the Big Hole yesterday with decent fishing although the water was a little off color . Mainly Browns in the 16 to 20 inch range.

I expect the big hole to fish well for a week or two as long as it doesn’t get to dirty. The Caddis should start showing up on the The Big Hole in the next 10 days or so.

Just when you get all your fishing gear in order and start thinking of those spring hatches , the weather takes a turn. Not for the good either.

It is nice to see good moisture and good snow pack in the Mountains but it sure would be nice to have some good weather . I am sure it is on its way but not soon enough. This weekend I have to guide on the Missouri , so as long as the weather is some what decent the fishing should be good .

Hot beads and czech nymphs are doing well on the Mo. and Streamer fishing has been good . Midges and Baetis are not far off . Probably mid may should start seeing good hatches on the river. Mid May will bring caddis and grey drakes and the trout will definetly get on those bugs.

The Yellowstone has been fishing good on non windy days which seem to be few far between. Stonefly nymphs and the usual prince nymph have been producing some nice trout. Streamers and buggers are catching some nice browns also. Some fish have been eating midges in the foam holes. Hopefully there will be a couple of weeks of good dry fly fishing mid april till blow out on the Yellowstone , Boulder and Stillwater .

So if you want to experience some good dry fly fishing this spring contact Water’s Edge for details .

Febuary is upon us and the days are starting to get longer . Things are going in the right direction for some spring fishing. Late March and April can be excellent for some early season fishing. For example the Yellowstone can produce some great midge and baetis hatches and march brown drake hatches. When they get going trout take advantage of these hatches and fill up before the spring run off hits the free stone streams of Montana.

Also in the spring one can see incredible midge and beatis hatches on the Missouri. This can bring many fish up to the surface and form pods of rising trout that are eager to eat a dry fly. So if you want to experience some excellent spring fishing contact us to book a spring trip to get the cabin fever out of your system.

The days are starting to get longer and hopefully we will be getting some warmer weather and the trout will start coming out of their winter lethargic state and start getting hungry for some food . A person can have some excellent spring fishing before the major snow melt.

I will be heading to Calgary , Canada for a Fly Fishing expo show , should be exciting and hopefully wrangle a few new fly fisherman to come to MT.
